Choosing a roofing system is one of the most consequential decisions you will make for your property. The material you select affects everything from your energy bills to how often you need repairs, and no single roofing type fits every building. A steep residential home in a snowy region has very different needs than a low-slope commercial structure exposed to standing water. Understanding the strengths of each roofing type helps you match the right system to your building, your budget, and your long-term goals.

At LCT Construction and Services Inc., we have installed and serviced a wide range of roofing systems since we opened our doors in 2009. As a CertainTeed Premier Shingle Master, we hold ourselves to strict standards of workmanship and material quality. Below, we break down the three roofing types we work with most often, along with the technical details and use cases that set each one apart.

Asphalt Shingle Roofing

Asphalt shingles remain the most widely installed roofing material across Bellingham, Milford, Hopedale, Mendon, Franklin, Medway, Upton, & Hopkinton, MA and much of the country. They combine affordability, proven durability, and a broad range of colors and profiles. Architectural shingles, such as the CertainTeed Landmark line, use multiple layers of material laminated together to create depth and dimensional appearance while adding wind and impact resistance.

The typical asphalt shingle system relies on more than the shingles alone. A complete installation includes underlayment, ice and water shield in vulnerable areas, proper flashing at penetrations, and balanced attic ventilation. When these components work together, an asphalt roof can protect a home for decades. This roofing type suits most sloped residential roofs and works well for homeowners who want a reliable, attractive system without a premium price.

Metal Roofing

Metal roofing has grown in popularity for both residential and commercial buildings, and for good reason. A properly installed standing seam metal roof can last far longer than asphalt, often outliving the building’s other major systems. Metal reflects solar heat, which can lower cooling costs during hot months, and it sheds snow and rain efficiently, making it a strong choice for homes in areas with heavy winter weather.

Technical performance is where metal roofing truly stands out. Panels are engineered to expand and contract with temperature swings, and concealed fasteners in standing seam systems eliminate exposed penetration points that can leak over time. Metal is also non-combustible and highly resistant to wind uplift. Common applications include:

  • Residential accent roofs: porches, dormers, and bay windows that benefit from a durable, decorative finish
  • Full-home standing seam systems: ideal for owners who want maximum lifespan and low maintenance
  • Agricultural and outbuilding structures: barns, garages, and workshops where longevity matters more than appearance

Flat and EPDM Roofing

Low-slope and flat roofs require a completely different approach than sloped roofs. Water does not run off quickly, so the roofing system must form a continuous, watertight membrane. EPDM, a synthetic rubber membrane, is one of the most trusted solutions for these conditions. It resists ultraviolet exposure, tolerates temperature extremes, and remains flexible for many years.

Flat roofing is common on commercial buildings, additions, and modern home designs. When we install an EPDM system, we pay close attention to drainage, seam adhesion, and proper termination at edges and penetrations, because these details determine whether the roof performs as intended. Our process for flat roofing typically follows these steps:

  1. Inspection and measurement: we assess the deck, slope, and existing conditions before any work begins
  2. Surface preparation: we clean and repair the substrate to create a sound base for the membrane
  3. Membrane installation: we lay and bond the EPDM with fully sealed seams for a continuous barrier
  4. Detailing and finishing: we secure edges, flashings, and drains to prevent water intrusion

What Our Customers Say
What a fantastic job this company did replacing my roof. They were very thorough and they worked long hours every day to complete the job. Obviously they have worked together for a while as their team work was amazing. My property was left in excellent condition.
Luis and his team did a great job on our roof. We had a small leak and Luis was very open and honest about the work needed beyond just a quick repair. We chose to move forward with a metal roof, and it looks great. We will call LCT Construction again when we need more work done.
My experience with LCT was excellent! They were prompt throughout. No matter what step in the process, whether calling the office, connecting with James during the quote/proposal or speaking with Luis, Eduardo and the crew during the actual work; everything was seamless!
Start to finish LCT was amazing. James walked me through every part of the process, and ensured that we understood how everything works. The project manager Eduardo kept me updated via text while I was away at work, and sent me pictures of their progress.
LCT Construction has been a great company to work with. They have done several jobs for me (two were full roof replacements). This is a company with skilled roofing professionals. I had no problems during the jobs and the roofs look great and importantly have had zero leaks.
My experience with LCT was great from start to finish. They came recommended by some friends who had also used them for projects. When I first called due to some leaks in my roof, they were able to have Luis, the owner, come out and assess the situation very quickly.
